APPARATUS RESPONSE

1. PURPOSE

1.1 In the interest of the department member’s health and safety, this document is established to provide guidelines maintaining safe apparatus response.

3. OSHA REQUIREMENTS

3.1 The department shall maintain safety while riding or responding on apparatus in accordance with OSHA regulations.

4. PROCEDURE

4.1FIREFIGHTERS RESPONDING ON APPARATUS

• 4.1.1  No firefighter is allowed to ride on any UFD vehicle without being in a seat with a seat belt. The belt shall be fastened on all firefighters before the vehicle is in motion.
• 4.1.2  Full turnout gear shall be worn at all times when riding on apparatus.
• 4.1.3  All pagers or other personal scanners shall be off while riding on a UFD vehicle.
• 4.1.4  Firefighters shall not get off the apparatus until it has come to a complete stop and is ordered to perform a task by officer in charge.
